Leland’s Fishtown was named to the National Historic Register in 2022. It’s easy to see why when you stop in for a day trip in the iconic fishing village that harkens days past with the cedar shake shops, flowing waterfall created by the Leland Dam and old fishing vessels that line the waterway and docks. Fishtown was also recently named number 10 on the 20 Most Beautiful Towns in the U.S. by TRAVEL + LEISURE, pretty impressive!

- Diversions: Features hundreds of hats and caps by Tilley, Stormy Kromer, Stetson, and other fine hat-makers. Located on the docks in Fishtown. They like to say, “stop by and take one for a spin!”
- Carlson’s: Fresh and smoked fish, fish sausage, beef and turkey jerky. A Leland tradition for five generations. Try the pate.
- Dam Candy Store: Classic, cheerful, and always delicious – the Dam Candy Store is Fishtown’s most favorite sweet spot. Who doesn’t love sweets on vacation? Our wide variety of candies, ice creams, and chocolates are sure to bring out the kid in you!
- Tug Stuff: A one-of-a-kind shop found only in Fishtown, Leland. The little Tug Boat emblem found on Tug Stuff merchandise was designed by local artist and Main Street Gallery owner Malcolm Chatfield. It represents the old-fashioned fishing tug characteristic of 1900’s Fishtown. Imagine a new polo shirt with a tug boat instead of a horse!
- The Bead Hut: Located in Historic Fishtown, our one-of-a-kind handcrafted jewelry includes Leland blue, Petoskey stone, beach glass, and semi-precious gemstones. This is a great one for the kids that might be looking for keepsake jewelry. You will also find a fun, colorful selection of anklets, toe rings, up-cycled bags from Guatemala, and more.
